Girls basketball advances to Sectional Finals

On Thursday March 5, the New Berlin West Lady Vikings defeated Cudahy in the Sectional Semi-Final game. The Lady Vikings advanced one more time in the playoff rounds and will now be playing in the Sectional Final game this upcoming Saturday.

The stands were a sea of white as many students were there to support and cheer on the Lady Vikings. The Vikings were ahead the entirety of the game but started off slow. At the end of the first quarter the Vikings were ahead by a small 3 points with the score of 11-8.

In the second quarter, the Vikings and Packers both put up a fight, as the score went back and forth. The Vikings were still able to pull ahead before halftime with a four point lead, the score now 22-18, Vikings.

The Lady Vikings came out strong and with a new game the 3rd quarter. Junior Liz Liska said,” We knew we had to come out stronger in the second half and we really had to push.” The Vikings did just that as they went on a roll in the 3rd quarter that started with a perfect 3 point shot form Junior, Claire Radtke. At the end of the 3rd quarter the girls were up 38-23.

As the final quarter was upon them, the girls secured their lead and continued to impress. The girls defeated Cudahy by 12 points, with a final score of 46-32.

Senior, Rachel Novotny was the leading scorer of the night with 19 points, and juniors, Liska and Radtke, were key contributors with 8 points each.

The Vikings are now prepping to play Pius in the Sectional final game. Tip-off is Saturday, March 7th at 1pm at Brown Deer High School.
